The big benefits of hatha yoga

Take a class that focuses on body, breath and mind…

When it comes to wellness for mind and body, our hatha yoga classes have you covered.

Through a mix of breathing exercises, physical movements and guided relaxation, it aims to leave you feeling calm, yet invigorated, strong in body and with a clear mind.

This activity is for all levels and ages. ‘If you can get up and down from a mat on the floor unaided, it’s suitable for you,’ says Hatha yoga teacher, Amy Faulkner from Grounded Yoga.

The sessions focus on flexibility, strength and balance – which are vital to our wellbeing at any age.

Benefits of yoga include:

  • Relieves stress & anxiety
  • Improves balance & flexibility
  • Builds strength
  • Eases back pain
  • Supports healthy habits
  • Better sleep
  • Mindfulness

‘People come to yoga for all sorts of different reasons – to relax, recharge, face a new challenge or simply have some time to themselves,’ says Amy.

‘I aim to cover all of those. We spend time checking in with the body, breath and mind before moving round the mat in our asanas (physical postures) at a level that suits each individual.

‘We finish each class with a guided relaxation, so you come out feeling ready to take on the world again.’

Yoga is practiced barefoot or with socks and it’s best to wear comfortable clothing.

‘Remember we will be standing, lying down, bending over and everything in between! So leggings or jogging bottoms with a close-fitting vest or t-shirt is ideal,’ advises Amy.

Mats and equipment are provided, or you may bring your own, and it’s a good idea to bring a water bottle.

Why not revel in that post-class calm by relaxing with a coffee in Café Fika? It’s the perfect ending.
